Sumana Barman is a graduate in Direction and Screenplay writing from Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute, SRFTI. She is a dedicated filmmaker and academic with expertise in film direction, screenwriting, and visual storytelling.

She has been associated with cinema for the past ten years, primarily in the field of advertising and short fiction films. Passionate about nurturing the next generation of filmmakers, she continues to contribute to research, workshops, and collaborative projects that expand the boundaries of cinema education. Some of the institutes where she has taught as an assistant professor for Direction and screenwriting are AAFT University in Raipur and Mindscreen Film Institute (MFI) in Chennai.

In addition to teaching, she actively engages in research and creative projects that address the evolving role of screens in contemporary society. Two of her works have been published in the book “Multidisciplinary Aspects of Media and Arts: Thoughts and Practices,” with a chapter titled “Today’s Women onscreen: The Current Hindi Cinema Scenario.” The second book is Value Integration of Media and Arts; Chapter published: Small Town Stories: The changing setup in Hindi Films. Currently working as the assistant professor for the direction and script writing department at LV Prasad College of Media Studies, Sumana Barman continues to inspire students and peers alike with a passion for storytelling and a vision of filmmaking as a powerful tool for cultural reflection and social change.
